Answered question

Where are temporary files saved locally'

I just lost 1/2 days work when editing a document from within Projectplace. Unfortunately Word got stuck so I had to restart. Is there any way to access the file again? I suppose PP stores the file somewhere locally on the disk when it is being edited. I could not locate it with the name of the document anywhere on disk.

Now I ask myself how do I avoid this in the future? Do I have to save the document by closing it all the time so it will be saved again by Projectplace (it asks me that but only if I close the document and not when I save the file). This would increase the version number all the time, which I don't want.

Is there any other way to do it? Or is my only safe option to download and work locally and then upload it again (and loosing the built in versioning all together)?

Hi Dan,

The file is indeed stored temporarily on your hard drive. Usually is stored in C:/Users/[localaccountname]/AppData/Local/Temp

But it could also be stored in the local word temp directory.

Sometimes if you open word again it will automatically restore the file you were working on when it crashed

Good luck retrieving your file.

Best regard,
Karolina
