I've had a luckier life for some months now after I scrapped MS Internet Explorer, using Firefox instead. What a relief that was!
But a few days ago we decided to let Projectplace handle the versions of our documents, and I felt the up- and downloading of documents to Projecplace got rather time-consuming. And this morning I discovered that it didn't handle the versions at all, all the saved versions of the document looked just the same!
Next discovery was that I hadn't got the Projectplace plug-in for Firefox installed. I tried to install this, restarted, and saw that downloading would now be simpler for me; more like in MS Internet Explorer. Just one thing: Firefox crashed every single time I tried to download a file from Projectplace. Every single time.
Then I found some info from you saying that the plug-in did not work with Firefox 3.6. And I use Firefox 3.6.8.
So I tried to turn off and uninstall the plug-in.
Then finally my questions:
1) Is there any way around it so I can use Firefox, Projectplace and the document version handling in combination?
2) If not, when do you plan to have a version ready of the plug-in that will work with Firefox 3.6 or whatever new version I should use of it?
3) Or do I just have to go back to that tragic MS product called "Internet Explorer"?
Thanks a lot!
Best regards,
Hans Petter Krane
Hi Hans-Petter!
Thanks for your question(s). I'm glad that you feel happy with your choice of browers:)
Answers:
1)If the documents are put under version control you should have a version number behind the name of the file. Typically the first version will be 0.1.
You can update the file by downloading it to your computer, editing and then using the "replace" option on the menu that shows up when you click next to a document i Projectplace. This will create a new version of the document, e.g. 0.2.
To see all the versions of a document, go back into the version management and you'll get a list of all the versions.
2) You can install the plug-in for firefox. Drag and drop doesn't work, but you should certainly be able to click on, open, edit, and save back your documents with he integrated version management working:
3) My personal recommendation is that you use the poduct that you find best suited for your needs and personal preference:)
